About the Project

Sensei’s Comments

Unlike some of the other projects, this one was possible to do individually or as a group. It also was more flexible in terms of the product, as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) can be almost anything. Students worked on this project during the height of the pandemic, when NFTs were “disrupting” the art world.

The main purpose of the project was to help students understand how blockchain works and how consider how it could be used with or integrated into other media. While we examined practical uses of the technology, we also discussed more philosophical concerns such as the impact of NFTs on art and explored social concerns such as the energy required to power and drive blockchain technology. Based on all this, students had a choice to either design some NFTs to sell on one of the popular exchanges or, if they felt this was an ethically wrought problem, research and write a position paper arguing against doing so.

Most students decided to create. What follows below are some samples of the NFTs that were actually designed and put up on exchanges.
