Zemi Projects

Members of the zemi do not just study media theory. They are asked to practically apply what they have learned in the zemi — and the business knowledge they have gained in other courses in the COB — to various real-world projects. These projects provide opportunities for members to experiment with media design and gain familiarity with industry standard media tools used to make, promote, and distribute their ideas.

Below are some of the main projects that zemi members have created and sold throughout their time in the zemi.

Graduation

The graduation project is entrepreneurial. Students are asked to conceptualize, design, and market a product of their choosing. This requires students to draw from, and apply, the various business and media knowledge they have learned throughout their time in the COB.

The graduation project is a group project, and runs the entire 4th year of the zemi. The first semester is spent studying basic ideas related to entrepreneurship, conducting market research, and considering what type of media to create. The second semester is spent doing design and strategizing promotion.

Students have sold their products at Tokyo events such as Comiket and Design Festa.

Stamps and Stickers

In the past, one of the first major projects the zemi has worked on is creating stamps and stickers for platforms such as Line. The project is collaborate, with zemi members in the second and third years breaking into groups to work together to conceptualize, design, and promote original sticker designs. Overall, project provides an opportunity for members to get to know each other, as well as expose new members to some of the main tools used in media production.

During this project. students study basic visual design principles, learn to conduct market and competitor analysis, and write a social media strategic plan.

Semester Projects

At the end of each semester, students are asked to demonstrate their understanding of course concepts by working together on a project. In the second year, these projects typically focus on designing some type of creative media. In the third year, the projects focus more on producing media strategies. There are no required semester projects in the fourth year, as students are busy working on their graduation project.
